Proscribed Palimpsest

Proscribed Palimpsest is a roleplaying game inspired by Dwarf Fortress for its generated worlds and histories, Daggerfall for the freedom to live any life in them, and AI Dungeon for what a language model can bring to a game.

Everything is simulated in depth: a spherical world to cross, detailed scenes, the passage of time, inhabitants with their own schedules and personalities, and bodies down to their organs and humors. Yet you never experience this world directly: you see it through the mind of a unique character you shape, from their body to their childhood memories.

Your character's mind is made of modi mentis: over 450 crafts, sciences, vices, and passions, each with its own voice. A local language model speaks through the ones your character possesses, so the world comes to you as they perceive it: what they notice, how they judge it, what they consider doing, and what lies beyond them.

Before you download

• Early version. The game is in active development and updated regularly. Content, balance and systems will keep growing, and your feedback are welcome.
• Free demo. The demo is the complete game, limited to three runs. 
• Free manual. The full rulebook is a free PDF on this page. It covers how dice pools are built, what organs do, how humors flow, and more.
• Local language model. The model is included in the download and runs on your own computer. No internet connection, account or subscription is needed, and nothing leaves your machine.
• Speed depends on your hardware. A graphics card generates text quickly. A processor alone works, but text may appears more slowly. Try the demo first to see how it runs on yours.
• A small model, by default. The game ships with a compact model so it runs on modest hardware. If your machine can handle more, you can swap in a larger model: put any instruction-tuned model in GGUF format in the game's "models" folder and rename it "model.gguf". The game will mention the change at startup and carry on.
• Community. Feedback, bug reports and questions are welcome either here or on Discord.
